The Supreme Court on Monday cancelled the bail of former MP Dinu Solanki, who is accused of the murder of Right to Information activist Amit Jethva, PTI reported. The court ordered day-to-day trial and said the bail stands cancelled till eight key witnesses were examined.
The bench also ordered the Gujarat Bharatiya Janata Party leader to not enter the state.
In June, the Gujarat High Court had ordered a retrial in the Amit Jethva murder case. Jethva’s father Bhikhabhai had moved the High Court, demanding retrial and investigation.
The High Court had called another trial being held at a Central Bureau of Investigation court a “miscarriage of justice” as Solanki was believed to have manipulated it. The court stayed the trials after 105 of 195 witnesses had turned hostile.
Jethva, a wildlife and RTI activist, was shot dead outside the Gujarat High Court in 2010 after he had filed a petition alleging illegal mining of limestone in Gir forest. Although the Ahmedabad crime branch had given Solanki a clean chit, the CBI had arrested and named him in its chargesheet in 2013.
