At least 50 women, including expecting and new mothers, fell ill allegedly after they were administered antibiotic injections at a state-run hospital in Madhya Pradesh on Sunday night, PTI reported. Assistant Superintendent at Kamla Raja Hospital in Gwalior Rita Mishra said the women reported shivering after they received ampicillin injections.
She said the antibiotic was provided by a government supplier, and that its supply has now been suspended. Mishra added that an investigation was under way into the incident. “Samples of the injection would be sent for an examination,” she told PTI.
Although Mishra claimed that all of them were now stable, some reports said that two of the women were in critical condition. “Five women were shifted to the Intensive Care Unit,” Dr Sanjay Chandel, the acting superintendent of the hospital, told News18. “Three of them are stable but condition of the other two is serious.”
