West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday said her government was working to fight the dengue outbreak in the state, and that there was no need to panic, The Indian Express reported.

Banerjee, who is also the state’s health minister, said so far 40 people have died in the state from vector-borne diseases, but that there was no need to panic.

“Some people are trying to create a panic with a vested interest,” the newspaper quoted her as saying. She said some corporate houses who were against the government’s decision to set up a health commission, were “passing wrong information”.

“Some doctors are working 24 hours. We have also alerted all municipalities to launch a special drive to kill mosquitoes,” Banerjee said, according to the report.

Banerjee said her government will act against civic bodies if they fail to check the spread of dengue, the Hindustan Times reported. Kerala, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu have also been grappling with dengue.
