Actor Anthony Rapp revealed on October 29 that Kevin Spacey made a pass at him “sexually” when he was 14 years old and Spacey was 26. In response, Spacey released a statement on his Twitter profile, stating that he was sorry if Rapp’s allegations were true. In addition, the 58-year-old actor came out as gay.
In an interview with Buzzfeed, Rapp said that Spacey had invited him to a party to his apartment in Manhattan in 1986 and tried to have sex with him. Rapp added that he had been troubled by memories of the incident, and had shared his story with friends and colleagues over the years.
In his response, Spacey apologised while clarifying that he could not remember the incident. “But if I did behave as he describes, I owe him the sincerest apology for what would have been deeply inappropriate drunken behavior, and I am sorry for the feelings he describes having carried with him all these years,” Spacey wrote. The allegations had made him confront persistent rumours about his sexual orientation, the award-winning actor added. Stating that he had been bisexual in the past and is now living as a gay man, Spacey said, “I want to deal with this honestly and openly”.
