Congress President Sonia Gandhi was released from the Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in New Delhi on Saturday after she was admitted to the facility with an upset stomach on Friday, ANI reported. The hospital said that the Congress president had recovered from her ailment and was discharged at 4 pm.
Her son and party vice president, Rahul Gandhi, said she took ill while she was in Shimla.
Rahul Gandhi thanked those who expressed their concern on Twitter. “Ma was in Shimla,” Gandhi said. “Nothing to worry, she’s much better.”
The 70-year-old has been reported to be unwell for months now. She was admitted to the hospital on May 7 with food poisoning and discharged on May 12, PTI reported. The Congress president also underwent a shoulder surgery at the same hospital in 2016 and was briefly admitted to a hospital in November because of a viral fever.
Given the reports of her heath, there has been speculation about when Rahul Gandhi will take over as the party chief. On October 13, Sonia Gandhi had said he will take over the Congress soon. “You have been asking this for so many years, and it is now happening,” she had told NDTV.
