A farmer in Uttar Pradesh’s Jalaun district has accused the cavalcade of state Jail Minister Jai Kumar Singh Jaiki of driving over his farm and destroying the seeds he had sown last week, the Hindustan Times reported on Thursday.
The minister was on his way to inaugurate a scheme to guard fields from stray animals and attend a “bhumi puja” of a cow shelter on Wednesday. To save time, Singh did not step out of his car and drove over the field instead.
“I am a poor farmer. I had taken a loan to sow mustard in my fields,” Devendra Dohre was quoted as saying by CNN-News 18. “The entire crop in my three bigha field has been destroyed.”
As the minister was about to leave, Dohre fell at this feet and complained of the financial loss he had suffered. After listening to him for sometime, Singh went back to his car and someone from his entourage gave the farmer two Rs 2,000 notes.
The motorcade then sped away, leaving the farmer to rue that while he had spent almost Rs 35,000 on sowing the seeks, the minister had given him just Rs 4,000 for his loss.
