Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Tuesday announced that the government had waived a fee charged for delayed filing of Goods and Services Tax returns for August and September.
“Late fee paid will be credited back to taxpayer ledger,” he said on Twitter.
In a related development, GST Network Chief Executive Officer Prakash Kumar on Monday said that the GST website would launch an online application for processing exporters’ refunds for Integrated GST paid for August and September.
Earlier, the government had waived late fee for delayed filing of the GST returns for July, The Times of India reported. According to the GST law, a daily penalty of Rs 100 is levied on the Central GST and an equivalent amount on State GST for a delay in filing the returns and tax payment.
