Renowned filmmaker IV Sasi passed away in Chennai on Tuesday morning. He was 69.
The prolific director had more than 150 titles to his credit in Malayalam, Tamil and Hindi, including Avalude Raavuka, Anubhavam, Mrigaya and Balram vs Tharadas.
He began his career as an art director for AV Raja’s Kaliyalla Kalyanam in 1968. Sasi won several awards in his more than four-decade-long career, including the JC Daniel award by the Kerala state government in 2015. He won the National Award for Best Film on National Integration in 1982 for Aaroodam.
Sasi’s 1993 movie Devasuram, starring Mohanlal, was one of the most widely acclaimed films of the filmmaker’s career and one of Mohanlal’s biggest hits.
Sasi also made several movies with Mammootty, including the commercially successful Adimakal Udamakal.
Sasi was married to Seema, a popular Malayalam actor, and the couple has two children.
