Veteran singer Lata Mangeshkar has said that she does not wish to hear the remixed version of her classic song Ni Main Yaar Manana Ni, DNA reported. Retooled by Hitesh Modak and sung by Yashita Sharma, the newly released music video of the song features Vaani Kapoor.
“I haven’t heard this new version,” Mangeshkar told DNA. “Nor would I want to hear it. So I wouldn’t want to comment on it. But in principle, I’ve always been opposed to remixes and cover versions of classics. They shouldn’t be touched. So many of Pancham’s, Madan Mohan’s and Laxmikant-Pyarelal’s songs have been tampered with; beats and lyrics are modified. It’s like rooms being added or removed from the Taj Mahal.”
The original song was a dance number that was composed by Laxmikant-Pyarelal and featured in Yash Chopra’s Daag (1973). Yash Raj Films has also produced the remix. “This was a special song because it was done in a robust khula-galaa Bhangra style that my sister Asha (Bhosle) specialises in. I was wondering if I was right for it,” Mangeshkar told DNA.
The singer has previously expressed her disdain for remixes. In 2015, she had told Deccan Chronicle that she did not care for the remixed version of Need Na Mujhko Aaye in Vikas Bahl’s Shaandaar, which was originally sung by her and Hemant Kumar.
