Nostalgia and intrigue abound in the trailer for Phantom Thread, reportedly Daniel Day-Lewis’s last film before retirement.
Paul Thomas Anderson’s eighth film is set in 1950s London and chronicles the story of Reynolds Woodcock (Daniel Day-Lewis), a renowned fashion designer with royals, movie stars and heiresses for clients. His carefully ordered life gets disrupted when he meets Alma (Vicky Krieps), who becomes his muse and his lover.
Produced by Universal Studios, Annapurna Pictures and Focus Features, Phantom Thread marks the director’s second collaboration with Day-Lewis after There Will Be Blood (2007). The acclaimed actor won one of his three Academy Awards for his performance in Anderson’s oil-boom drama.
The background score is by long-time Anderson collaborator Jonny Greenwood. Phantom Thread will be released on December 25 in the United States of America.
