Rajinikanth has joined the list of prominent personalities who have tweeted in support of Altee’s Mersal, praising the Tamil film for addressing an “important topic”. Starring movie star Vijay in a triple role, Mersal makes references to the Goods and Services Tax and also features the actor criticising Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s controversial decision to demonetise 86% of the currency.
The Bharatiya Janata Party had claimed that the scenes were insulting to the prime minister and the Centre’s policies. The producers of the film reportedly offered to remove scenes that the BJP considered offensive on Friday.
After Mersal, RJ Balaji also tweeted a clip from his upcoming movie Kee that mocks GST. “A film not just entertains, but also sends us the message ‘We Care’”, the video says. Directed by Kalees, Kee is a science fiction psychological thriller starring actor Jiiva.
