Solicitor General Ranjit Kumar, the government’s second-most senior legal officer, submitted his resignation on Friday citing personal reasons, The Indian Express reported.
Kumar – who was appointed to the post in June 2014 – said he now wanted to spend more time with his family. “The government is good to me, but I tendered my resignation due to personal reasons,” he told NDTV.
His resignation comes months after Mukul Rohatgi resigned as the attorney general.
Kumar is considered an expert in constitutional laws, service matters and taxation, according to The Indian Express. He had earlier served as counsel for the Gujarat government.
