Amidst the news of the endless destruction that the wildfires in Northern California have caused comes a story of hope. The bright spot appeared in the lives of a family separated from their pet dog Izzy in the fire that had completely destroyed their neighbourhood.
The magic moments can be seen in the video (above), shot by Jack Weaver on his phone as he and his brother-in-law walked up a steep road inspecting the damage done by the fires. At the end of the road, they see their family home burnt to the ground. “Somehow the vineyard’s made it,” exclaims Weaver.
They’re still hoping to find Izzy, calling out her name. And suddenly, from the shadows of a bush, they spot a furry creature who comes bounding out for a joyous reunion.
“She was very happy to see us,” Weaver said of Izzy, a nine-year-old Bernese Mountain Dog. “She’s such a brave dog. She was panting a lot and clearly stressed. But she was not frantic or anything.”
