The Indian men’s and women’s recurve team failed to make an impact in the World Archery Championship currently underway in Mexico City as they bowed out in the first knock out round on Tuesday.
The women’s team comprising Deepika Kumari, Promila Daimary and Monika Sareen lost to Georgia 4-5 after taking a 4-2 lead at one stage. In the final set to decide the tie, Indians could only manage a score of 25 which the Georgians had little trouble in overhauling.
In the men’s event, the Indians failed to maintain the momentum after staging a comeback and lost 4-5 against USA. The team comprising Atanu Das, Mangal Singh Champia and Tarundeep Rai had qualified for the knock-out stage with the fifth best score but they could not reproduce a similar performance in the first round.
The players will now compete in the individual events in which Deepika, who has first round bye, and Atanu Das considered to be the country’s best medal prospects.
