Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday said 90% of Indian Administrative Service officers “do not work” and “hold up files”, PTI reported. “Delhi’s development is stuck at the secretariat,” he added.
Speaking to pensioners in New Delhi, Kejriwal said when he wanted to make contractual employees of the New Delhi Municipal Council permanent staff, the officers told him employees will stop working if they are regularised, The Hindu reported. “I said if working is the criteria, first IAS officers should be made temporary staff.”
Kejriwal’s Aam Aadmi Party had promised to regularise contractual workers when it contested the 2015 Delhi Assembly polls. On Tuesday, Kejriwal used the issue to bring up his demand for statehood for Delhi again. He said if Delhi had full statehood, the government would regularise all contractual employees in 24 hours.
