Pikachu, the popular character from the Nintendo video game series Pokemon, is set to make its live action debut in the film Detective Pikachu. Based on the 2016 Japanese point-and-click video game Great Detective Pikachu, the film will follow the exploits of a highly intelligent, talkative and bossy version of the Pokemon solving crimes with its partner, a young boy named Tim Goodman, all the while wearing a Sherlock Homes-style deerstalker cap.
Produced by Legendary Pictures, Detective Pikachu will be made by Goosebumps director Rob Letterman. Screenwriters Nicole Perlam (of Captain Marvel fame and Alex Hirsch (Galaxy Falls) have been roped in.
Filming will begin in London in January 2018. The casting has not yet been completed.
