The Faridabad Police on Sunday arrested three people for attacking a group of people over suspicions that they were carrying beef, PTI reported.
The arrested people were identified as Lakhan, Dileep, Ram Kumar, the police said. Assistant Commissioner of Police Radhay Shayam said that the three men were being questioned and that the others would be arrested soon.
Initially, cases were registered against the people who were beaten, as well as the attackers. “In the initial investigation, it was found that it was buffalo meat and not beef that was being transported,” the Station House Officer in Mujesar, Vinod Singh, was quoted as saying. Following this, a case was registered against the attackers, he added.
One of the victims, identified as Azad, claimed that the attackers had demanded that he chant “Jai Gau Mata” and “Jai Hanuman”. After Azad refused, “they said we are going to feed you pork if you do not,” he had claimed. The family of the victims had refuted rumours that their relatives were transporting beef.
The police arrested them based on a video clip of the incident, The Hindu reported.
