At least five people were killed in rain-related incidents after heavy showers lashed Bengaluru on Friday, The Times of India reported. A couple died after their house collapsed on them in Kuruburahalli, The Hindu reported. A mother and daughter were washed away in the torrent. A Basaveshwaranagar-based Hindu priest’s body was found in the drain police said.
“This unprecedented rain has posed unprecedented challenges,” Bengaluru Development Minister KJ George told The Times of India. “We are taking all the required measures.”
The meteorological department forecast heavy showers for the next two days. The city recorded 1,540 mm of rain by October 14 this monsoon. Bengaluru may be close to recording its highest-ever rainfall, Indian Meteorological Department director L Ramesh Babu told The Times of India.
