E-commerce giant Amazon on Friday suspended Amazon Studios Director Roy Price after the producer of Amazon Studios’ show The Man in the High Castle alleged that he had sexually harassed her in 2015, The Guardian reported. Actor Rose McGowan has also alleged that Price had ignored her claim that United States movie producer Harvey Weinstein had raped her.
Amazon announced on Friday that Price had been placed on an immediate leave of absence, and an investigation was being conducted into the allegations made by the two women.
Isa Hackett told the Hollywood Reporter on Thursday that Price repeatedly tried to proposition her when they were promoting Man in the High Castle at Comic-Con in San Diego, California, in July 2015. Hackett added that when she told Amazon about the incident, the company hired external investigators, but she never got to know the results of the inquiry.
Meanwhile, Amazon said it was considering scrapping two projects it was working on with the Weinstein Company, which sacked Harvey Weinstein after he was accused of sexual harassment and assault by several Hollywood actors, including Gwyneth Paltrow, Angelina Jolie, Ashley Judd and Cara Delevingne.
Allegations of sexual assault against Weinstein are being investigated by the New York Police Department and the London’s Metropolitan Police. The New York Police Department said that it was conducting investigations to “determine if there are any additional complaints relating to the Harvey Weinstein matter”, adding that no complaints had been filed against him yet. The Los Angeles Police Department is also considering opening an investigation against the producer.
