Nitish Kumar, Chief Minister of Bihar, has launched a statewide campaign against dowry and child marriage. Bihar is second only to Uttar Pradesh in the number of dowry deaths.

One of the outcomes is a full-on Bollywood style campaign film against dowry (above). Comparing a dowry-seeking bridegroom to a khota sikka (counterfeit currency), the film makes a psychological pitch to the ego of the man – is he willing to be considered so worthless that he needs a dowry to survive?

The tagline: “Dahej ek bandish hai, bandhan nahi.” (Dowry is a burden, not a bond). And yes, even the groom’s demanding father comes around after his son’s passionate renunciation of dowry.
