Bharatiya Janata Party chief Amit Shah on Friday defended his son Jay Shah, and said the “question of corruption” does not arise against his son’s company.
An article in news portal The Wire had reported that the revenues of Jay Shah’s Temple Enterprise Pvt Ltd had grown from Rs 50,000 in 2014-’15 to Rs 80.5 crore in 2015-’16. It also reported a number of loans received by companies connected to Jay Shah, based on documents filed with the Registrar of Companies.
“If you have evidence to prove your allegations, bring it to the court,” Shah said at an event organised by news channel Aaj Tak. “This is not a case of corruption. Jay has filed a criminal defamation case, and has demanded an inquiry himself.”
Amit Shah said his son’s companies had not engaged in “even one rupee worth of business” with the government, or had received profits “like in the case of Bofors”. “This company is purely in the commodity business, where turnover is more while the profit is less...After doing a turnover of Rs 80 crore, they don’t tell how much profit they made,” he said.
He said Jay Shah’s company had made a loss of Rs 1.5 crore, and insisted that all transactions had happened through cheques and banks. “Where has money laundering been done?”
Amit Shah also took on the Congress which had attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP chief after the media report had emerged. “The Congress has faced so many allegations of corruption. Why has it not gathered the courage to file defamation cases?” he asked.
