India topped the medal tally with seven gold, nine silver and five bronze medals in the Track Asia Cup, held at IGI Sports Complex in New Delhi. The Indian cycling team finished their campaign by winning four medals on the final day, which includes two silver and as many bronze on what was the final day of the Track Asia Cup.
China finished second with four gold and a couple silver medals while Indonesia secured third place with four gold, one silver and two bronze.
In the morning session, India juniors Mayur Pawar and JK Ashwin secured silver and bronze respectively in sprint event. Pawar clocked 11.045 seconds with a speed of 65.188 km/hr while Ashwin finished in 11.098 seconds with 64.877 km/hr speed. Indonesia’s Terry Yudha won gold with 10.850 seconds at 66.359 km/hr.
The bronze medal of the women’s elite sprint event was won by P Nayana Rajesh of India, finishing at 11.940 seconds. China’s Chaorui Song and Yufang Guo distributed took the gold and silver medal respectively.
The silver of men keirin event was earned by Ranjit Singh and added a silver to India’s tally. Malaysia’s Muhammad Fadhil won gold and his teammate Muhammad Khairil Nizam Rasol won bronze in the event.
In men’s omnium event, Ashton Lambe of USA bagged a silver with 149 points (He had won gold medal of 4-kilometre Individual Pursuit event). Kazakhstan’s Assylkhan Turar secured Gold with 163 points. China’s Liang Guo earned 135 points to secure bronze.
India ace Deborah Herold clinched a World Cup berth but she could only manage a fifth placed finish in keirin, an event where she was expected to finish on the podium. China cyclists Shanju Bao and Chaorui Song claimed gold and silver respectively. P Nayana Rajesh, who was representing India’s second team, SAINCA, claimed bronze in this event.
