A court in Panchkula on Tuesday extended the police remand of Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh’s adopted daughter Honeypreet Insan until October 13, PTI reported. The court had earlier sent her to six-day police custody on October 4.
Last week, the Haryana Police said Honeypreet Insan was not cooperating with the investigation, and that they would ask for an extension to her remand if she continued. The police had claimed that she distributed Rs 1.25 crore among some followers of the sect to incite violence in Panchkula on August 25 if Singh was convicted in the rape cases against him.
The police were criticised for inefficiency after nearly 40 people died and over 250 were injured in the violence that erupted after he was pronounced guilty.
On Tuesday, the police asked for nine-day remand but after hearing arguments, the court sent her to three days in police custody, Honeypreet Insan’s counsel SK Garg Narwana was quoted as saying.
The Dera Sacha Sauda chief’s adopted daughter had been missing for over a month before she was arrested in Punjab on October 3.
