Three men were arrested on Friday for allegedly raping a 19-year-old woman and then shooting at her in Lucknow on Wednesday, the Hindustan Times reported on Friday. A case has been registered against them for rape and attempt to murder.

The woman was hit on the nose after being shot at and is believed to be out of danger.

The incident took place on Wednesday night in Malihabad village on the outskirts of Lucknow when the woman had stepped out of her house to relieve herself. She has alleged that she was gangraped as one of the accused wanted revenge from her brother, who was named in the case of his sister’s elopement, a local police inspector was quoted as saying.

One of the accused reportedly fired at her when she threatened to file a police complaint. The woman is undergoing treatment at a local hospital.
