SpiceJet Chief Managing Director Ajay Singh on Friday said bringing aviation turbine fuel under the Goods and Services Tax would help make India’s aviation sector the fastest growing in the world in the next decade, PTI reported.
“We want aviation turbine fuel cost to be reduced and states should reduce sales tax and bring it within GST...,” Singh said at the India Economic Summit of the World Economic Forum, adding that it could help “increase connectivity”. “If it happens, then ATF prices will come down, fares will come down and the aviation sector will see growth.”
The SpiceJet chief’s statements comes at a time when the GST Council is discussing ways to ease moving to the new tax regime. Small and medium businesses have found it exceedingly difficult to make the transition, and the council, on Friday, discussed ways to make it easier for them to file their GST returns.
