Saudi Arabia’s King Salman bin Abdulaziz was all set to make a grand entrance in Moscow earlier this week, if it weren’t for a minor technical error. He embarked from his private jet onto an impressive gold escalator he had arranged for his arrival, but his grand entrance quickly became awkward as the escalator stopped working right in the middle of it all.
A video shared by RT (above) captured the entire scene, including the painful few seconds that ensue as the 81-year-old Saudi royal was halted, and seemed unsure of what to do. Finally, he was forced to walk down the stairs like a regular person. “The poor guy had to walk,” pointed out one Twitter user.
King Salman had brought with him an entourage of 1,500 people, the gold escalator and his own carpets on his four-day visit to Russia, to strike billions of dollars worth of arms and energy deals with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
