Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday said the society would be ruined in the next 20-25 years if the growing problem of substance abuse and addiction in the younger generation was not checked.
“I am sharing this concern with you as someone who has grown amidst you,” the prime minister said. “Don’t you hear news about the younger generation, especially our boys, falling victim to substance abuse? If we let this grow, then in 20-25 years, our society will be ruined. If such addiction enters our youth and our families, it will pain our older generation a lot.”
Modi made the comments while inaugurating an ashram of socio-religious organisation Umiya Sansthan in Haridwar through video conferencing. He said the organisation could play a crucial role in fighting alcoholism among the youth and creating awareness about cleanliness and the environment.
