After nearly 80 years of serving the people of New York City, the Kosciuszko Bridge, which connected the boroughs of Brooklyn and Queens, collapsed like a house of cards.
Situated over Newton Creek, the bridge, which had been carrying vehicles since 1939, was named after a Polish soldier, Tadeusz Kosciuszko, who fought in the American Revolutionary War. On Sunday, the bridge was demolished with a controlled implosion.
A drone captured the remarkable footage of the implosion that took down the old bridge amidst clouds of dust, while leaving intact the newly-built bridge meant to replace it. New York Governor, Andrew Cuomo, officiated at the implosion.
