Marilou Danley, girlfriend of Las Vegas gunman Stephen Paddock, has denied having any knowledge of the shooting and said she had no idea what he was planning to do.

“I knew Stephen Paddock as a kind, caring, quiet man,” she said in a statement, reported The Washington Post. “He never said anything to me or took any action that I was aware of that I understood in any way to be a warning that something horrible like this was going to happen.” She also expressed shock at the “horrible unspeakable acts of violence” that he committed.

Fifty-eight people died in the shooting on Monday and over 500 were injured. Reports said Paddock shot himself before the police were able to apprehend him.

Danley had earlier been a possible suspect in the investigation but had voluntarily returned from a trip to the Philippines and spoken with the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Danley said she had gone to visit her family in the Philippines after Paddock had bought her a ticket to go there.

Paddock appeared to have been well-prepared before the attack, and the Las Vegas police had said he had pre-planned the shooting extensively.

President Donald Trump and First lady Melania Trump on Wednesday visited those injured in the shooting.
