Universal Pictures has rescheduled the release of the ninth installment of the Fast and Furious franchise to April 20, 2020, Variety reported. Dreamworks animated sequel Trolls 2, also produced by Universal, will now be released on February 14, 2020, instead of April 10, 2020, to avoid a clash with Fast and Furious 9.
Universal Pictures has not disclosed the reason for the shift. Fast and Furious 9 was initially scheduled to be released on April 19, 2019.
The Fate of the Furious, the eighth film in the franchise which released earlier this year, grossed more than $1.24 billion worldwide. Although no director has been confirmed for the ninth installment, Vin Diesel and Michelle Rodriguez are expected to reprise their roles in the film.
