The two women Dera Sacha Sauda chief Ram Rahim was imprisoned for raping have filed a review petition at the Punjab and Haryana High Court, seeking to have his 20-year sentence increased to a life term, PTI reported on Wednesday.
On August 28, a special court of the Central Bureau of Investigation in Panchkula had sentenced Ram Rahim to 20 years in jail for sexually assaulting the two female followers. At least 41 people died in the violence that followed his conviction in the rape cases on August 25.
The advocate representing the two women, Navkiran Singh, said they had sought life imprisonment because the Dera chief had “broken their trust and misused his position as a religious and spiritual leader”.
