Jammu and Kashmir Police on Tuesday said security officials had shot dead three militants who had targeted a Border Security Force Camp in Srinagar. The attackers are believed to have been members of a Jaish-e-Mohammad affiliate group. One Border Security Force jawan was also killed in the attack near the Srinagar international airport.
Around 4 am, the militants had tried to enter the Border Security Force 182 battalion camp near the Srinagar airport outside the Airforce station at Gogo Humhama. Security forces retaliated with firing and isolated the militants, who were holed up in buildings inside the campus.
The Indian Army, the Central Reserve Police Force, the Border Security Force and the special operations group of the Jammu and Kashmir police were called in after the militants hurled grenades and started shooting indiscriminately, unidentified officials told Mint.
