Yahoo on Tuesday said all 300 crore of its accounts were breached in a 2013 data theft incident, Reuters reported. In December 2016, the firm had admitted to more than 100 crore accounts being hacked in 2013. The firm, later taken over by Verizon Communications, said data including passwords in clear text, payment card or bank account information had not been compromised.
Yahoo faced at least 41 consumer class-action lawsuits in United States federal and state courts over the matter, the report said.
“Verizon is committed to the highest standards of accountability and transparency, and we proactively work to ensure the safety and security of our users and networks in an evolving landscape of online threats,” Verizon’s Chief Information Security officer Chandra McMahon said.
Yahoo was forced to cut its sale price to current owner Verizon from $4.8 billion (Rs 31,356 crore) to $4.5 billion (Rs 29,396 crore) after the breach and the takeover was completed in June. AOL subsidiary and Yahoo were merged to form Oath under Verizon Communications.
