India A Women’s Hockey Team won their first match in the Women’s Australian Hockey League as they beat Tasmania 1-0 in their last Pool B encounter in Perth on Tuesday. Sangita Kumari scored the only goal of the match as she powered India to three points.
India controlled the tempo of the game throughout the first quarter. At the start of the second quarter, the visitors scored a superb team goal as Kumari Tasmania’s goalkeeper Ruby-Rose Haywood to make it 1-0. After that Tasmania tried to break India’s back line but could not succeed as the Indians put on a spirited display.
India enjoyed their one-goal lead for the rest of the match and made sure that Tasmania did not score an equalizer.
The team registered their first win of the AHL and will now progress to the next round of the tournament to play classification matches as they finished 4th in Pool B with 3 points. The India A Women’s Hockey Team will play Western Australia in Pool D on Thursday.
