Chelsea striker Alvaro Morata faces up to six weeks of absence after suffering a hamstring injury during his side’s 0-1 defeat to Manchester City at Stamford Bridge on Saturday, The Guardian reported.
The Spanish national team coach Julien Lopetegui left Morata out Morata of La Furia Roja’s World Cup qualifiers against Albania and Israel later in the week. Spain are currently sitting on top of group G, three points clear of Italy with two games remaining.
Chelsea coach Antonio Conte, on Saturday, insisted that Morata’s withdrawal during the 35th minute of the game was only an attempt to ensure that the striker did not aggravate his injury. The reigning English champions’ upcoming games are against lowly Crystal Palace, AS Roma, Watford and Everton.
Morata, Chelsea’s club-record signing, has been in impressive form, scoring seven goals in eight matches since moving from Real Madrid in the summer.
