One of Tamil star Vikram’s biggest hits Saamy is returning for a sequel, titled Saamy Square. The movie is being directed by original helmer Hari and stars Trisha, Keerthy Suresh, Prabhu and Soori. Devi Sri Prasad will compose the soundtrack, and the shooting has commenced in Chennai.
Hari’s action drama, released in 2003, stars Vikram as a rugged police officer in Tirunelveli who uses off-the-book methods to maintain the peace and take down the corrupt politician Permual Pichai (Kota Sreenivas Rao). Co-starring Trisha, Ramesh Khanna and Vivek, the movie was one of Vikram’s biggest hits. Saamy was remade in Telugu as Lakshmi Narasimha (2004), Kannada as Ayya (2005), Bengali as Barood (2004), and Hindi as Policegiri (2013).
The announcement comes even as Vikram’s son Dhruv is getting ready for his screen debut. Dhruv will play the lead role in the Tamil remake of Sandeep Reddy’s Telugu hit Arjun Reddy. Reddy’s movie is a Devdas riff about a young man’s descent into alcohol and self-loathing after a failed love affair.
