Seventeen-year-old Prithvi Shaw on Monday became the youngest cricketer after Sachin Tendulkar to notched up a century on debut in the Duleep Trophy.
The Mumbai-based batsman scored 154 runs to take India Red to 317/5 on Day 1 of the Duleep Trophy final against India Blue being played in Lucknow.
Shaw had also scored a century on his Ranji Trophy debut earlier this year.
Tendulkar, who too began playing professional cricket at a young age, had scored centuries in the Ranji Trophy, Irani Trophy and Duleep Trophy before turning 18.
Shaw, like Tendulkar, had burst into the scene after setting a record in the prestigious Harris Shield school cricket tournament in Mumbai.
The then 14-year-old Shaw had scored a remarkable 546 off 330 balls while playing for Rizvi Springfield School.
On Monday, he produced another fine gritty performance on a wicket that favoured spinners.
Opening the innings, Shaw added 74 runs along with Akhil Herwadkar (25). He was then joined by Mumbai team-mate Suryakumar Yadav, however the later departed after just scoring 12 runs.
Shaw then enjoyed a fine partnership with skipper Dinesh Karthik. The former India wicket-keeper batsman scored a fine knock of 111 runs. The two added 211 runs for the third wicket to frustrate their opponents.
The duo were departed within just a few overs of each other. Baba Indrajith, who came in to bat bat with just a few overs left in the day joined them in the pavilion after adding just four runs to the total.
