The trailer for Wes Anderson’s stop-motion animation feature Isle of Dogs blends dystopia with whimsy and quirk in the American director’s distinctive visual style.
Isle of Dogs is set in a futuristic Japan where an outbreak of dog flu has caused all canines to be quarantined to a remote island. Twelve-year-old boy pilot Atari Kobayashi defies the Mayor to fly to the titular island in search of his guard dog Spots. He is assisted in his quest by a pack of five mongrel alpha dogs.
Produced by Fox Searchlight, the film has a sprawling voice cast that includes Edward Norton, Bill Murray, Scarlett Johansson, Bryan Cranston, Tilda Swinton, Greta Gerwig, Frances McDormand, Jeff Goldblum, Harvey Keitel, Liev Schreiber, F Murray Abraham, Courtney B Vance, Bob Balaban, and Yoko Ono.
Isle of Dogs is Anderson’s second stop-motion feature film after the Oscar-nominated Fantastic Mr. Fox (2009). The film is scheduled to release on March 23, 2018.
