Just as we’re alarmed and angry over children’s safety in schools after the terrifying murder in Gurugram’s Ryan International School, a disturbing video has surfaced from Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh.
The two-minute video (above) shows the principal of a government primary school in Bilhaur’s Nevada village during working hours, in a completely inebriated condition. Pradeep Kumar, the man in the video, is visibly drunk as he struggles to sit up straight while a woman, presumably a teacher, reproaches him.
Children from the school then surround him for a picture, laughing, while some even pull his hair. Kumar, of course, doesn’t quite care, and even laughs himself at one point.
The latter half of the video shows the principal being questioned by the person recording it. Kumar tells him he is paid a government salary of Rs 50-60,000, to which the camera person responds, “The government is paying you Rs 60,000 to teach children, and you’re showing up drunk to teach them?” Kumar continues to defend himself, claiming, “I do a lot of work,” as the video ends abruptly.
