“I didn’t learn any Hindi growing up. I took it up as my second language but they didn’t teach us any of the useful stuff,” begins stand-up comedian Naveen Richard in his new video Struggling with Hindi. He talks about how he picked up bits of the language only at chaat shops and through Hindi films. “I can maybe order like an Ola cab or something to my house,” he says, and explains how he would struggle even with that.
Richard narrates another incident when he was on his way to the airport and saw that a bush, on the other side of the road, was burning. “I know it sounds like a Bible story, but it’s a true story,” he insists. He then decided to call the fire department, but the language barrier caught up with him once again. “The opposite of water is happening man,” he told the fire service.
