Indian women pugilists signed off with a rich haul of one gold, four silver, and three bronze medals at the Ahmet Comert Boxing Championships for youth women boxers in Istanbul, Turkey.
Soniya won the lone gold medal for India in the 48kg, beating Kazakhstan’s Zhazira Urakabeva in her summit clash. The rest of the four Indian finalists went down in their respective bouts to finish with silver. Niharika Gonella (75kg), Shashi Chopra (57kg), Parveen (54kg), and Ankushita Boro (64kg) were the four silver medallists for India, reported PTI.
Gonella lost to Kazakhstan’s Shamonova Anastasiia, while Chopra went down against Vladislava Kukhta, another Kazakh boxer. Russia’s Anastasiia Artamonova got the better of Parveen and Boro lost to Kazakhstan’s Zhazira Urakabeva.
Earlier, Tilotama Chanu (60kg), Jyoti Gulia (48kg), Lalita (64kg) and Manisha (69kg) had clinched bronze medals after losing their respective semifinal bouts.
The Ahmet Comert Boxing Championships is an ideal preparation for the boxers to get some training ahead of the AIBA World Youth Boxing Championship in Guwahati later this year.
