A pair of completely white giraffes has been filmed (above) for the very first time by conservationists in Kenya. In the Ishaqbini Hirola Conservancy, the mother and child were spotted by local residents, who then tipped off the experts.

The short video captured the mother and child in footage that, according to the Hirola Conservation Programme (HCP), represents only the third known sighting of a white giraffe. Though the white skin was initially attributed to albinism, it was later clarified that the condition the giraffes suffer from is leucism, which inhibits pigmentation in skin cells.

However, giraffes and other animals with leucism are not at any genetic disadvantage that may affect their survival.
