A biopic on the life of Indian tennis legend Vijay Amritraj is in the works, Mumbai Mirror reported. Co-produced by his son Prakash, the film will focus not only on Amritraj’s sports career, but also his personal life and philanthropic activities.
Amritraj has 16 singles and 13 doubles titles under his belt, and was awarded the Padma Shri in 1983. He also made brief appearances in films, including the James Bond movie Octopussy (1983) and Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home (1986). He started the Vijay Amritraj Foundation in 2006, which provides aid to underprivileged children and women, and HIV/AIDS patients.
“We decided on Amritraj because his story has way too many firsts for India and Indian sports. The film will showcase his entire journey,” co-producer Rohit Khattar told Mumbai Mirror. The film will reportedly begin production next year.
