Convicted rapist Gurmeet Singh, the former Dera Sacha Sauda head, has become the subject – you simply cannot call him a victim – of parodies of the Sonu Song, which has become a popular tool for protest.
Made by people across Haryana and Punjab, they revolve around a similar theme, calling out Singh for fooling his followers and his illicit activities. One group (above) sings as its chorus:
“Jail diyan rotiyan hain gol gol
Ram Rahim premiyon ko sach bol.”“The jail provides your rotis round
Ram Rahim, tell your disciples the truth.”
At the same time, Haryana’s Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar also features in the song (below). He was heavily criticised for the mob violence in Panchkula and Haryana.
People from all across have made their own parodies, with entire families and even children joining in. Watch some of them below.
