Halo Top has become the top-selling ice cream brand, passing legacy brands like Ben & Jerry’s and Häagen-Dazs, in the United States. And the low-calorie ice cream company has once again demonstrated why it holds that position.
In its new advertisement (above), titled Eat the Ice Cream, we see a Black Mirror-esque dystopian future where creepy robots have taken over the world after the human race has perished. All that remains is ice cream. The ad employs dark humour to play on the setting, which is clearly inspired from the white bedroom sequence in Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey.
“We wanted to do something that’s a reflection of our company – we’re a collection of personalities here, not a big, corporate structure – and give our fans something they could enjoy.” CEO Justin Woolverton said. “We could do the typical, ‘hey, here’s a jingly ad where everybody likes ice cream’ ad, but isn’t that boring?”
