At one of his signature “JagMeet and Greet” events, Canadian politician Jagmeet Singh was accosted by a heckler who probably confused him for a Muslim. She kept interrupting his attempt to make a speech by accusing him of being complicit with “the Sharia and the Muslim Brotherhood.”
Singh dealt with it with remarkable dignity, earning the applause of the evidence. “Love and courage,” he kept repeating, before telling her, “We welcome you, we support you, we love you.” The event would not be “intimated by hate”, he declared.
At a time when angry exchanges, rancour and resentment are the ruling sentiment of most political exchanges, this was a refreshing change.
