Maharashtra’s Tara Shah and Karnataka’s Tanya Hemanth emerged victorious the Under-13 and Under-15 girls singles finals respectively in the All India Sub Junior Ranking Tournament at Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh, on Thursday.
Both the Under-15 boys singles finalists were from Tamil Nadu in a contest that saw Sankar Muthuswamy stun top seed Siddhanth Gupta 19-21, 21-17, 21-12. Tonmoy Bikash Boruah won the U-15 boys singles crown after beating Ayush Shetty 21-12, 21-9.
Karnataka’s seventh seeded shuttler Hemanth defeated Janhavi Kanitkar of Maharashtra 21-14, 15-21, 21-17 to become the under-15 girl’s champion in a gruelling contest that lasted for 55 minutes.
Telengana’s K Lokesh Reddy and Kakinada’s K Sathwik Reddy prevailed over Haryana duo of Aditya Garg and Manraj Singh 21-17, 14-21, 21-15 to clinch the under-13 boys doubles crown.
Anya Chauhan, who finished as the runner-up in the girls Under-13 singles final, lifted the women’s doubles crown along with partner Hiral Chouhan in straight games. In the under-15 girls doubles category, Gujarat’s Tasnim Mir and Anupama Upadhyaya beat Kriti Bharadwaj and Hemanth 21-11, 21-19. In the boys doubles U-15 draw, Chayanit Joshi and Vikas Yadav of Uttarakhand trounced Shivam Mehta and Pranav Sharma 21-8, 21-11.
