Ten people, including a gardener, conductors and drivers, were detained on Friday, hours after a Class 2 student of Ryan International School in Gurugram’s Bhondsi was found with his throat slit in the school toilet, PTI reported. “We have been investigating their role,” said Sumit Kuhar, DCP Crime, Gurugram. All 10 are being questioned in connection with the incident, officials said.
The seven-year-old boy is believed to have reached the school at 8.15 am and was found dead by an official half an hour later, The Times of India reported. He was taken to Artemis Hospital in Gurugram, where doctors declared him brought dead.
The parents of some students claimed bus drivers and conductors were allowed to use washrooms that are meant for students, News18 reported. However, school authorities have denied this.
So far, the Gurugram Police have registered a case of murder against unknown people, ANI reported. A knife was recovered from the scene and investigators initially questioned members of the school staff and the bus driver.
A team of forensic experts has collected blood sample and fingerprints from the scene. “We are investigating the case from all angles – homicide, enmity and others,” Public Relations Officer of the Gurugram Police Ravinder Kumar told PTI, adding that the child’s body was sent for an autopsy.
The police have filed a murder case under Section 302, the Hindustan Times reported. The student’s father Varun Thakur has accused the school administration of negligence. “They did not take care of my son,” he said. “He could have been saved if he had been taken to a hospital in time.”
The boy’s sister is a Class 5 student in the same school.
Parents are protesting at the school against the child’s murder. Many of them vandalised school property, ANI reported.
In February 2016, a Class 1 student was found dead in the water tank at the Ryan International School in Vasant Kunj, Delhi.
