The world has many great inventors. Now it’s seeing Simone Giertz, the self-proclaimed “queen of shitty robots”.
On her website, she describes herself as, “Simone Swedeborn of House Giertz, the Queen of Shitty Robots, Breaker of Transistors, Mistress of Malfunction, Mother of Terrible Inventions.” Anyone who has seen her inventions wouldn’t dare to disagree. The trailer (above) should give you an idea.
The 26-year-old Swedish robotics enthusiast, inventor and YouTuber has become a comedian of technology, with her deliberately awful inventions that attempt to automate everyday tasks. Giertz uses deadpan humour to introduce her blunderingly wondrous inventions, like the terrifying baby-drone carrier which she invented a few days ago (below).
Giertz explained her career-choice to Wired thus: “When I started building things, obviously I was pretty bad at it. You can’t be good at it from the start, and I decided to just embrace that, roll with it, and turn it into something funny.”
It all started when she designed a helmet that brushes your teeth (below) in 2013.
She has since then invented hilarious contraptions like an alarm clock that slaps you awake, a breakfast machine, a lipstick applier, a butt-wiping robot, an applause machine, a robot to help her argue on the internet, and many, many more inventions that you can watch below, or on her YouTube channel, which has more than 700,000 subscribers and millions of views.
