The Jammu and Kashmir Police on Monday said two militants were killed in an encounter with security forces in Baramulla district’s Sopore town. Director General of Police SP Vaid said they were members of the Hizbul Mujahideen.
In a joint operation by the police, Indian Army and troops of the Central Reserve Police Force, Sopore’s Chack-e-brath area was cordoned off after they received intelligence on the presence of the two militants, said Inspector General of Police Nitish Kumar.
The militants opened fire as a search operation was being conducted. The two died after the security forces retaliated, Kumar said. Two AK-47 rifles and one Insas rifle was recovered from the site of the shootout.
